Anyway, we're not big fans of "stuff" here chez moi and we have books coming out the wazoo. I had no idea what to get her, nor could I answer the copious requests for ideas from family members who were also at a loss. Starting at the end of July, I tried prodding The Girl for ideas. Give me something, anything! As I beg her for an answer, I whisper to myself, "Please don't let it be Polly Pockets or American Girl dolls. Please don't let it be Polly Pockets or American Girl dolls Please don't let it be Polly Pockets or American Girl dolls." If that's your daughter's thing, I mean no harm, but it just seems too tiny (Polly Pockets) and ridiculously expensive (American Girl).
The Girl balked at my requests until August 31, which happens to be the day before her birthday. On that night, at around the super convenient birthday shopping hour of 6 PM, I got the following list dictated to me:
- A new doll house
- Zoobles
- Many awesome stuffed animals
- Lots of books
- New clothes, but only ones I like
- Some cash. Yes, she really did request cash.
- Something really expensive I won't want to lose
At least, not yet.
